FAQs
Q. What do ‘legal costs’ include?
A. This will include costs such as solicitors; barristers fees and charges for disbursements, plus any opponent’s costs should you lose and be liable to pay them.
Q. I can get a cheaper legal protection policy, so why should I use ALP?
A. Price should only be an issue when you are comparing identical products. If you choose a cheaper priced model, and it is incapable of doing what it purports to do, you could lose more than your clients. In December, 2005, ALP was voted Legal Expenses Provider of the Year for its policies, service and solicitor claims handling.
Q. If I have a legal problem before my policy starts, will this still be covered?
A. Any events that you are aware of before the start of your policy are excluded.
Q. If my client has a claim, can they choose their own solicitor?
A. Initially, ALP will choose a specialist legal representative to pursue their claim. However, if legal proceedings are necessary, they may nominate another legal representative, subject to our agreement.
Q. How many clients would I need to have to set up a Motor legal protection scheme with ALP?
A. This would depend on a number of factors. It would be best to telephone the Business Development department, directly, on 01454 455816, to arrange for a Business Developer to contact you.
Q. What type of Uninsured Loss Recovery scheme do you offer?
A. There are two products to suit any client base. As well as ULR, ‘Elite’ will also provide cover for vehicle recovery after an accident, message handling, overnight accommodation, medical assistance, emergency accommodation and family visits to a hospital.
If a client requires wider cover, then ‘Prestige’ can be provided. This will include all the Elite covers as well as Breakdown cover with both Home and Roadside assistance. There is also a car hire facility.
In addition, Prestige will provide cover for Motor Prosecution defence and Motor Contract cover for full motoring protection.
Q. Are there any excesses to pay before a client’s claim is dealt with?
A. No. Motor claims are sent directly to the firm of solicitors, who are nominated to deal with your scheme i.e. a solicitor from day one.
Q. Can I offer an Allianz legal protection policy, when an Insurer includes it within their own policy?
A. If the policy includes a mandatory legal protection section, it would not be ‘treating the customer fairly’ to sell another legal protection policy, in addition.
If the cover was sold optionally, you, the intermediary, would have a choice based on the demands and needs of that client, as to whether you offered an ALP policy.
Q. My ULR premium is Zero, all I pay is IPT, as well as receiving a referral fee for Personal Injury Claims and Car Hire, can you match this?
A. How confident are you that the policy is properly underwritten? Do you know who the actual underwriter is (especially if the ULR firm ceases trading)? Who will manage all open claims? There are also questions surrounding conflicts of interest & commission disclosure.
ALP have various business models that can be adopted to suit your requirements, such as 24 / 7 claims handling, credit repair, credit hire, with the potential of some commission earning from PI. However, as a responsible underwriter, ALP need to ensure that enough premium income is generated to pay potential claims, and make underwriting profit.
The broker receives a properly underwritten policy from an A+ rated sustainable UK insurer, professional claims handling, comprehensive Management Information (working to Key performance Indicators), FSA approved literature, real time internet claims tracking for fleets, and full marketing support.
Q. How do I proceed with setting up a scheme?
A. Please call a business developer as shown in the Team Menu
